About Giglets

The Giglets TeamGiglets Limited is a fresh young business, consisting of five entrepreneurial university and college students based in Ayrshire, which writes, illustrates and publishes its own series of educational books and other materials for children. These are based on the adventures of our loveable little character “Tam O’Haggis”, who has helped Giglets make the teaching and learning of Robert Burns much more fun and understandable.

Tam O'HaggisThrough our publications Giglets endeavours to educate young children whilst encompassing all aspects of Scottish history, culture and literature.

This is done through the creation of materials such as books, audio CDs and software and all comes together in the hope of our unique character, Tam O’Haggis, “opening a learning gateway to Scotland”.

Because of the nature of our business and the content in our materials, we are in the fortunate position whereby we can sell both into education and commercially. Within education, we aim for our products, including our Interactive Whiteboard software produced in conjunction with EDpaX (Link), to be used in all of Scotland’s primary schools.

Commercially, we sell very successfully through all Borders Books stores in Scotland, the two WH Smith Stores at Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, as well as in the Gleneagles Hotel and Resort, Tourist Information and Burns Heritage Centre in Alloway to name but a few.

TamTo the future... Giglets would like to create many more books featuring Tam O’Haggis, which cover more of our nation’s history as well as topical and societal issues facing Scotland, such as teaching children about the benefits of healthy eating and environmental awareness. Aside from that, we believe that we here at Giglets have the potential to grow.

We are developing Tam O’Haggis into a national brand, one which is for the people, by the people and about the people, thus allowing Tam O’Haggis to become something of an “Asterix” for Scotland.

To help us achieve this, we have opened an online bookstore (opening soon!) featuring many different Scottish related titles, we will be introducing merchandised products before Christmas 2009, and we are interested in developing our brand in new markets such as the food and animations industry whilst launching our products in the international market place, with the belief that by growing Tam O’Haggis we truly will be "Opening a learning gateway to Scotland”.
